If you’re thinking of buying a home, here are the six steps you need to follow that will lead you to the right home at the right price:

1. Consider which areas are important to you. Do you want to live near a particular school district or be close to certain amenities? Your lifestyle will dictate which area you should live in to enhance your homeownership experience.

2. Think about what condition you want your house to be in. Some people love taking on a fixer-upper so they can customize it to fit all of their preferences. Others, though, are too busy to do any remodeling and would rather buy a house that’s move-in ready.

3. Know what size of a house you’re looking for. Oftentimes, the size of your house is dictated by which area of town you’re looking in and what price point you’re comfortable at, which brings us to our next point…

Before you start your home search, sit down with your agent and talk with them about the buying process.

4. Decide the price point you want to buy in. To help you with this, your agent can refer you to a lender who can go through your finances with you. It’s important to work with a local lender in this regard because they understand our local market better and know what type of regulations you need to follow.

5. Get a pre-approval letter from your lender. Most sellers won’t even consider an offer that doesn’t include a pre-approval letter.

6. Start looking for your home! Once you have all the parameters finalized, keep your search broad. Once you’ve found the home you want to make an offer on, you’ll feel all the more confident in your selection because of all the different homes you’ve already seen.

Lastly, before you start your home search, sit down with your agent and talk with them about the buying process. It’s much more fun when you don’t have to deal with unwelcome surprises at every turn.
